ISHA 2019, held in Madrid, Spain and attended by over 600 orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, allied health personnel, residents and fellows from all over the world, aimed to build on the Annual Scientific Meeting’s reputation as a meeting of scientific excellence and accommodate the needs of all with an interest in hip preservation.
The theme for the meeting was “Building the Hip Preservation Team” and, correspondingly, each day focused on the different components of the overall strategy needed to treat simple and complex hip disorders, with the programme comprising debates, symposia, highlight lectures, instructional courses on current and controversial topics, virtual surgery simulation sessions, a commercial exhibition and lunchtime industry seminars, as well as plenty of networking activities.
Alongside lectures from world leaders in hip arthroscopy, open surgery, hip preservation and rehabilitation, delegates enjoyed keynote speeches by Larry Mullen Jr. of the band U2 and Dan Drawbaugh of the Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute. A pre-conference day was built in to allow for consensus groups and regional interest groups to come together.
